Hire an AI Developer in Europe

Claude-powered product features with regulated-industry discipline.

I'm Waseem Ahmad, an AI engineer and full-stack developer building LLM-powered products since 2022. European teams get two things from me: real AI product work — like the Claude AI features in Continuity, an M&A marketplace for the Belgian SME market — and the engineering discipline of regulated industries, from HIPAA healthcare data to an SEC Reg CF fintech backend. With Pakistan just 3–4 hours ahead of CET, we share 5–6 working hours every day.

Based in Pakistan (UTC+5), 3–4 hours ahead of CET — 5–6 hours of shared working time with most of Europe, daily.

The challenge

Most 'AI development' ends at a demo that falls apart in production. Shipping real AI features means engineering around the model — fallbacks, validation, cost control, and data handling your compliance team can sign off on. That's the standard I build to, shaped by regulated healthcare and fintech work.

What I build

LLM Product Features

Claude and other LLM APIs integrated into real products — like the AI features shipped in the Continuity M&A marketplace.

AI-Assisted Workflows

Automating document-heavy and repetitive processes with LLMs, with human review built in where it matters.

Full-Stack AI Applications

The product around the model: Next.js frontends, Node.js backends, data pipelines, and production deployment.

Healthcare Data Integration

HL7/FHIR interfaces and clinical data flows — including a gateway handling 10,000+ messages a day at 99% delivery.

Regulated-Industry Engineering

AI features built with the discipline of regulated work — my background is HIPAA healthcare and SEC Reg CF fintech.

APIs & Integrations

Connecting AI features to your existing systems through documented, tested APIs and webhooks.

Frequently asked questions

What timezone overlap do you have with European teams?
Pakistan (UTC+5) is 3–4 hours ahead of CET and 4–5 ahead of the UK and Ireland, so I share 4–6 working hours with virtually every European team, every day. Real-time discussion happens across your morning and early afternoon; the rest runs async with written updates.
Our team is spread across several European countries. How does one overlap window serve all of them?
Because the spread inside Europe is small next to the gap between us. Lisbon to Helsinki is three hours end to end, and Pakistan sits ahead of all of it — three hours ahead of Finland and five ahead of Portugal in winter, one less each in summer, since I am on UTC+5 and do not shift for daylight saving. My afternoon therefore lands inside the working day at every point on that line at once: late morning in Lisbon, midday in Berlin and Madrid, early afternoon in Helsinki. A single call slot works for the whole team rather than one that quietly excludes whichever end of the continent drew the short straw.
You work with clients across the EU and EEA. Do you know how contracting works in each country?
No, and I would be wary of anyone who claims to. Twenty-seven member states plus the EEA do not share one answer on tax, invoicing, or how a supplier outside the bloc is treated, and your accountant understands your situation in a way I cannot. What I keep constant is my own side: I work as an independent contractor supplying services from Pakistan, never as an employee, under either a direct services agreement with defined milestones invoiced on completion, or a contract through Upwork where escrow and payment protection sit with the platform. Agreements are in English. If your finance team needs particular wording, references, or invoice formatting for their system, tell me at the outset and that is how they are issued.
What stays the same regardless of which country we are in?
The commercial side, deliberately. Quotes are issued in US dollars — the starting figure noted below is USD — which for AI work is usually the currency you are already thinking in, since the model providers underneath the build bill in dollars too. Your local amount depends on the rate the day you pay, so quoting it here would be wrong by the time you read it; the scope and the price are what get fixed in writing after the intro call, and they do not move mid-project. Payment is by bank transfer, Stripe, or through Upwork. Every enquiry gets a response within 24 hours, with weekly demos of working software and written updates in between — the same in Dublin as in Warsaw.
How does an engagement start?
With a short intro call — 30 minutes to talk through what you're building and whether I'm the right fit. If we're aligned, you get a written, scoped proposal covering deliverables, architecture, and timeline. I respond to every enquiry within 24 hours.
How does communication work day to day?
Written updates as work progresses, a demo of working software every week, and async-first communication over email or Slack. You always know what was done, what's next, and what's blocking — without scheduling a meeting to find out.
How do contracts and invoicing work?
A straightforward services agreement with milestones, or a contract through Upwork if you prefer escrow and their payment protection. Payment by bank transfer, Stripe, or through Upwork.
Who owns the code and intellectual property?
You do. Full IP ownership transfers to you — source code, documentation, and infrastructure configuration. Repositories are set up under your organisation's control from the start wherever possible.
What does an engagement typically cost?
Most engagements start around $5K; smaller well-scoped work is considered case-by-case. After the intro call you get a fixed, written quote — no surprises mid-project.
